MIT: $100 Laptop
From the MIT website: "MIT Media Lab has launched a new research initiative to develop a $100 laptop — a technology that could revolutionize how we educate the world's children."
This is exciting for a number of reasons. First, it's clear that educating children in underdeveloped nations could help them to help improve their own countries, in addition to affording them a venue for communication with the rest of the world. That alone could, as they say, change everything.
Secondly, it's going to be Linux-based. My thought is that, the sooner and the more mainstream Linux goes, the sooner we may have a really decent Windows emulator. Yes, I'm still pounding that old drum. :)
