IE8 won’t install Flash player (Solution)
After trying all kinds of solutions, including re-installing the Flash player multiple times (and some of the solutions found in the Adobe forums), I fixed IE8’s inability to play Flash.
Of course, you have to install the Flash player (download from Adobe).
And make sure it’s installed: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
(if you don’t see the version displayed on the page, then it’s not installed).
Now, all’s good, right? Oops. Not so fast. A quick trip to YouTube gives me that annoying “you must install the latest version” statement, although I’ve installed it multiple times. After fooling around in the Tools menu, I finally found this, which nobody seems to mention — you actually have to instruct IE8 to use it on sites!
- Tools > Manage Add-Ons
- Select “Shockwave Flash Object”
- If the Enable button is showing in the bottom right, click it
- Right click “Shockwave Flash Object” and select > More Information
- Click “Allow On All Sites” (an asterisk will appear)
- Click Okay (or Save)
This worked for me. Not sure why it wasn’t enabled in the first place.
